With the down economy some people are deciding to give up on selling their homes and just stay put and upgrade or remodel their home for themselves and others are renovating their home so it has more sales appeal when the market does turn. In this segment, Katie Carrol of your BBB sits down to chat with Wendy Joseph with HomeScapes Colorado about how to give your home a better flow for your comfort and style or to stage your home for sale.





So you are planning to get your home ready to sell or you just want to get a fresh look for your own enjoyment but you really do not have the money to make a lot of major changes or even invest that much. This may be the best time to enlist the help of an interior decorator or professional stager.

A professional stager works with realtors. They go into homes to help declutter and arrange the furniture differently. They add a few touches to bring some life into the room and make it more visually appealing. Nobody wants to buy a home that looks cluttered and there are simple ways to rearrange furniture that can help people better visualize living in your home.

Many people have their furniture all pushed back against the walls because they think it makes the room look bigger. Doing this actually makes the room very uncomfortable for conversation. Try bringing your furniture closer together so you have a nice conversation area and use a rug to create a cozier feel.

You do not need to spend a lot of money to have a nice-looking home. Many people just give up because they think. “I don't have thousands of dollars to spend.” Interior design really is more about pulling your room all together to make it look more intimate and cozy than expensive furniture and accessories.

You always want a focal point in the room. Many times people have a scattered look such as little pictures all over. You need balance and it is easy to do with simple table décor. How you hang your pictures and how you fill your bookcases can also create balance. Instead of having just books on your bookcase shelves, place some photos and art objects to give the eye a path to follow.

Interior design is not about having a lot of stuff. It is about effectively using key pieces like a great piece of art above the sofa, putting a throw across the back of a chair, putting some pillows on the couch or placing just a few little items in visually pleasing places.
